MONTHLY MARKET FOCUS: LAW ENFORCEMENT

When talking with a state trooper recently…

I was told something that stuck with me regarding the problems that the Guardian Angel™ solves.  “If you ask a metro police if they are more afraid of getting shot on duty or getting hit by a car, they will say getting shot.  If you ask a State Trooper this question, he’ll say getting hit by a car, no question.” I bring this up because both groups buy our devices, but for different reasons.  For the metro police, they might use the device to help with crowd control, traffic after a sporting event, or providing their location during a foot chase.  State troopers, on the other hand, use our devices to stay visible when working highway crash scenes or anytime they get out of their vehicle on the highway.  What stuck with me is that while both these groups have similar jobs, their motivation for buying the Guardian Angel™ can be vastly different.  Because the Guardian Angel™ is so versatile, allowing the customers’ imagination to take center stage is key.
When talking with any prospect about the Guardian Angel™, we have found success in asking a few simple probing questions to guide them after you perform a quick demo of the device.  Since the devices are inherently very versatile and most people just found out they exist, asking a general thought-provoking question opens their imagination and they begin thinking about how nice it would be to have one.

Q: “How would you use this device?”

Their answer will allow you to gauge their general interest and bring to light their concerns they have for their current visibility solutions. They will typically specify either “body-worn” or “place it on an object” ie traffic cone, windshield, paramotor, rocket ship, you name it.
If body-worn, a follow up question about their uniform is necessary to pinpoint which mounts will be good options.

Q: “What’s your uniform like?”

Their response will tell you what mount will work best for their uniform. Here are some recommendations based on specific answers:

Did you know that while every state has emergency vehicle lighting statutes, there aren’t any state statutes for personal lighting? Do we care more about vehicles than actual human beings? Here is a list of popular Law Enforcement Devices and Mounts and when to recommend each.

Second most popular Law Enforcement Device.  Good for states that only run blue lights.

ELITE™ Series Hybrid LEO Devices – While Hybrid devices cost more, the only LEO’s who should opt for these are departments who have air support with night vision, or military customers.  Otherwise, the standard devices work just fine.
