A Springfield firefighter was struck by a vehicle Saturday morning, according to the Springfield Police Department. Sgt. Jason Bisby said the firefighter was working another accident near James River Freeway and South Campbell Avenue around 9 a.m. when a vehicle slammed on its brakes and went through the median, hitting the firefighter.
The firefighter was transported to Mercy, dispatch confirmed, but Bisby didn’t have any updates on his condition. Dispatch said the firefighter was “doing fine.” Fire Chief David Pennington released a statement on Twitter Saturday afternoon:
“While working an accident this morning, one of my firefighters was struck by a vehicle. Thankfully, they were treated and released without serious injury, but only by Grace. Slow down. Give us some room to work. Please.”
